In the fight to battle cellulite there is now SmoothShapes® by Elemé Medical. SmoothShapes® is the FDA approved laser treatment for temporary reduction of cellulite. Extensive clinical testing beginning in 2006, after given the FDA approval, and was completed to bring this laser on the market in February 2008. Photomology™ technology, the hallmark of the SmoothShapes® system treats cellulite and subcutaneous fat by combining two types of laser light with vacuum massage. The laser light melts the fat, increases cell wall permeability, stimulates collagen production and blood circulation. The suction enables these actions between the tissues, as the laser light heats and stimulates cell activity to restore normal cell behavior and improve tissue function. Additional benefits of a SmoothShapes® treatment include relief of minor aches, pains, muscle spasms and temporary circulatory improvement.
Sessions for this laser cellulite treatment are painless and safe for all skin types. It is reported to feel like a warm deep tissue massage. Typical treatments for one body area take 20-24 minutes. Maximum results are gained when using the protocol regime of two treatments per week for four weeks. A reduction of cellulite as well as smoother tighter skin is seen in the treated areas for some after only 2-4 sessions. Clinical studies using MRI scans were completed at intervals of up to and over one year after the final treatment. Indications resulted in continued improvement to the treated areas. There is no cure for cellulite and because of this most will need maintenance treatments once or twice per year to maintain the results.
