Lipo Dissolve

Lipodissolve is a series of injections designed to remove, shrink and dissolve fat cells in localized areas.  The injections are placed between the dermis and deep layer of fat and are reported to reduce the appearance of cellulite and fat.  Some claims even report it will treat overall weight loss and spot weight reduction.  Sometimes referred to as Mesotherapy or lipolysis, the main compound used in Lipodissolve is called phosphatidylcholine (PPC).  PPC is one of the main components of soy lecithin, which has the ability to break down fat and reduce cholesterol.  PPC is mixed with multivitamins, enzymes, plant extracts and alpha lipid acid to make an effective concoction that will destroy the fat that causes cellulite.

Lipodissolve maintains it is a non surgical alternative to Liposuction.  Differing somewhat from Mesotherapy, which targets cellulite, Lipodissolve goes after deeper fat.   There are several cautions when contemplating Lipodissolve.  First there is no standard ingredient list for the chemicals used.  PPC is FDA approved to break down the blood fats that may increase the risk for heart disease.  However it is not FDA approved for injection or any other purpose.  Adding to this, many of the ingredients used are not FDA approved for single use, let alone as part of a mixture.  Currently lipodissolve is still in the clinical trial phase for fat melting.  Second, it has not been established what happens to the fat once it is dissolved.  Studies have not been done on whether it affects any of the organ systems once it has been liquefied.

It is very important when choosing this treatment to choose a physician trained and licensed to use this procedure.  The benefits and safety have not been firmly established and therefore this treatment should not be taken lightly.  Costs can range from $375- $1500. Typical therapy protocols involve several treatments that range from 30-60 minutes, spread 4- 6 weeks apart.  Results to the treated areas can take up to 3 weeks to be observable.
